The following is a compilation of programs/files and instructions needed to successfully install the Blackberry OS 5.0 Hybrid onto your Curve. The following structions are for installation on a RIM Blackberry Curve 8330 (Verizon Wireless CDMA) device. I have not tested it on another 8300 series Curve. I would imagine deleting the vendor.xml file would allow you to do so. Verizon Wireless users to do not need to do this. I have included the Precision theme which is my personal favorite theme for the Curve 8330 OS 5.0. This README/Compilation is a work-in-progress and was simply written to clarify and clean cut way to get the BEST version of OS 5.0 onto your Curve 8330.
Enclosed in the above file is the following:
RIM Blackberry Desktop Manager v5.0 (Optional)
RIM Blackberry Curve 8330 OS 5.0.0.230 Installation File
Nathanix's Latest Hybrid Files
JL_Commander v1.9.0
Blackberry Swiss Army Knife v1.7
Shrink-A-OS v4.1

1. Go to folder "RIM Blackberry Desktop Manager 5.0" and install "500_b028_multilanguage_nomediamanager.exe". If you already have install Desktop Manager 5.0 prior to his. Skip to step 3.
2. Start up Blackberry Desktop Manager and BACKUP your phone's content. This will be all of your application/theme settings and unless you want to reprogram your phone to your liking all over again. I highly suggest you take advantage of this while you can. If you wish to backup your third party applications - click here for those instructions.
3. Go to folder "JL_Commander 1.9.0"
4. Run "JavaLoader.exe" and follow instructions to "wipe" your Blackberry. This will remove absolutely everything from it and this is exactly
what you want for a clean OS 5.0 install. Afterwards, your Blackberry will reboot and show a "507" error. This is absolutely fine.
5. Go to folder "RIM Blackberry Curve 8330 OS 5.0.0.230" and run "8330AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel355_PL3.5.0.30_A5.0.0.230.exe". This will install the Blackberry Curve 8330 OS 5.0.0.230.
6. Go to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8330AMEA_v5.0.0.230_P3.5.0.30". This is the OS files that will be installed to your Blackberry. Minimize this window.
7. Go to "RIM Blackberry Curve 8330 5.0.0.328 Hybrid Files" and copy the "Blackberry.alx" into "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8330AMEA_v5.0.0.230_P3.5.0.30"
8. (OPTIONAL FOR NON-VZW CURVE OWNERS) DELETE THE VENDOR.XML FILE PRESENT IN THIS FOLDER. AGAIN, THIS IS ONLY FOR NON-VERIZON WIRELESS CUSTOMERS.
9. Now go to the "Java" folder inside the "RIM Blackberry Curve 8330 5.0.0.328 Hybrid Files" folder and copy everything into
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8330AMEA_v5.0.0.230_P3.5.0.30\Java". Allow it to overwrite any files it prompts for. Do not overwrite the folder. Merge the contents of the two folders.
10. After you have finished doing the above. Go to the "Shrink-A-OS" folder and run "Shrink-A-OS.exe"
11. Browse your OS installation folder to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8330AMEA_v5.0.0.230_P3.5.0.30". You may now remove anything from the OS files that you feel you do not need - applications, languages, etc. This can be a great help for those looking to reduce clutter on your Blackberry. Click the "Shrink" button to apply the changes.
12. When finished shrinking (if you did) press the "Start Loader" button and begin to load your new 5.0.0.230/.328 hybrid OS onto your Blackberry. When this is finished your device will reboot and it can take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes for the initial reboot. Don't panic - be patient.
13. When your device has rebooted to the new software. Startup Blackberry Desktop Manager and this time you want to RESTORE your saved backup file that you created in step 2.
14. When your device is up and running and your ready to start enjoying your new OS - it is a good practice to resend your service books. You can do this by going to "Options" then "Advanced Options" then "Host Routing Table" then press the menu key and select "Register Now".
15. Enjoy!
